EU Green Week 2017

EU Green Week 2017 will take place from 29 May to 2 June with the theme of 'Green jobs for a greener future'. It will focus on how EU environmental policies are creating green jobs and contributing to economic, sustainable and socially responsible growth in the EU. It will also highlight the demand for new types of green skills in many professional sectors.

In addition to a high level conference in Brussels, the programme will also feature a series of partner events and actions taking place across Europe. As well as being invited to take part in person, stakeholders and the general public are encouraged to become 'virtually' involved by participating in a wide range of on-line and social media activities.

BIG4 field workshop in the Czech Republic, 6th June-10th June 2016

The aim of the workshop is for all members of the BIG4 consortium to meet and catch-up with each other’s progress, celebrate first achievements, discuss difficulties and problems & to experience a practical field-based exposure to diversity of BIG4 with the focus on the dominating insect families.

Location: The workshop will take place in the National Park Podyjí at the Czech-Austrian border, with the base at the field station in the small village Havraníky

Program summary:
June 6: BIG4 progress overview with short (ca. 15 min) student’s projects progress-reports talks, get familiar with the area
June 7: Introduction to major collecting methods and trap installation
June 8: Sorting and identification of the first bulk samples, mixed with expert short talks about some most diverse insect families, ad hoc short nearby collecting excursions.
June 9: Continuing trap-based and hand-based collecting, as well material sorting and identification.
June 10: Finalizing sorting/identification, completing the summary of collected material, discussion on results and field activities, social even in the evening.

UPCOMING EVENT : BIG4 Kick-off in Copenhagen, DENMARK (UPDATES!)

The BIG4 Kick off meeting will be held in Copenhagen from the 14th to 18th of September 2015.
It will start off at the International House with talks from the project Coordinator, EU officer, project supervisors and some students. During final days, a collections-related workshop will take place at the Zoological Museum, with talks about entomological collections by speakers from various natural history museums. The scientific program of the meeting will be complimented by networking events for all participants, including a dinner club, excursion to Røsnæs and canal-tour in the city of Copenhagen.
